In Sun City, a transformative project is underway, breathing new life into the Gardens of Sun City assisted living and memory care community. The project, is set to redefine the community, marrying modern aesthetics with a touch of timeless design to revitalize a structure built in the late ’80s. This endeavor aims not only to enhance the physical presence on North Boswell Boulevard but also to create an oasis in the desert, symbolizing a fresh start for residents and staff alike.

Our client, facing the challenge of an outdated community set further back than neighboring senior living facilities, approached us with a bold vision. The task at hand: to renovate and breathe new life into a structure that, due to its positioning, had missed out on potential residents and staff, impacting the bottom line. The primary goal was clear—enhance the arrival experience, convert vacant skilled nursing wings into rental memory care, and reposition the community as a vibrant, relevant space in the 21st century.

Part of the Biophilic design – the canopy columns are designed as 3 abstract tree branches collated together more like a tree.

The design concept centered around creating an oasis in the desert, embracing natural materials that reflect the rich Arizona landscape. Three key features guided our approach—opening up common spaces, reorganizing them, and establishing a welcoming entrance with a clear hierarchy. The use of sustainable materials, energy-efficient HVAC systems, and an inventory already available on-site further underscored our commitment to a green and responsible project.

The Impact was nothing short of transformative. The arrival experience, both exterior and interior, has been reinvented, eliminating the feeling of being lost and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. By converting vacant skilled nursing wings into rental memory care and reorganizing existing spaces, Gardens of Sun City now stands as a beacon of modernity and relevance, setting it apart from neighboring communities, to compete, have a high occupancy rate and accomplished the desired return on investment.
